1  General Invacare / General Chair Chat / Re: Joystick Recall October 2013 on: October 09, 2013, 09:48:13 pm
Hi Jen,

This is a real concern! Like you though I have not experienced any problems and they are described, surprisingly enough I was just reading about it on Invacare New Zealand website.

Firstly at the moment I'm unable to check my serial number, but I'm pretty sure that my wheelchair falls within the date range.

Although, I have had the joystick replacement? I contacted my card provider and left a message on thier answering machine to get back to me.

Do you think they are only going to replace only if there are problems or is this a blanket recall?

Any feedback would be appreciated thank you

Cheers,

Malcolm.

The motors are coming down to the workshop, within the next couple of days. Then all it will take will be to make an appointment time for them to take my wheelchair away for fitment and servicing. All and all I didn't realise until they told me. But this issue with some parts supply has been affecting them since November of last year.

I could imagine the noise would get on your nerves Jenn
4  General Invacare / General Chair Chat / Re: Crashing of Gears on: February 12, 2013, 05:48:25 pm
Thank you, kiwijenn, and Jakeboy1,

After the gear engaged (it went back to what was normal for it over the last couple of months very noisy), but I appear to have no more trouble with it (at the moment)! But I am a bit weary of it now having had this obvious failure. The wheelchair guy said "maybe your caregiver in the morning didn't put it into gear properly" it seemed to pop out of gear just after I had stopped having given it quite a hard run for 35 minutes. Could  have the gear mechanism inside the gearbox suddenly expanded after stopping?

Is the motor and the gearbox separate to each other or part of the same unit?

As far as anybody knows is the difficulty with the supply of replacement motors, at the moment?

Trying to get a straight reply from the wheelchair repair people has been difficult, possibly they don't know any estimated time of arrival themselves? From a consumer's point of view sometimes it's quite frustrating, not being given a little bit more information.

Cheers,

Malcolm

This morning I went out for a bit of a drive in my wheelchair stopped for an ice cream. I went to move again and found that I couldn't my wheelchair was in gear (I had driven all the way up to my location without incident).

When I tried to move my MK6 colour controller displayed a yellow bar down the bottom instead of the usual green, saying (left brake fault). I know this condition signifies that the wheelchair is not ready to drive because the drivetrain is disengaged. I must say at this particular juncture, that my Invacare SP is due to have motor replacements as both of them are very very noisy indeed, particularly the left one which caused the problem today.

When I tried to drive the wheelchair while it was like this, there was a great grating sound from either the motor or the gearbox as if cogs were spinning? I asked my friend to disengage the motor and engage it again which was done. On the second attempt there was an even louder   crunching of gear ratios as the wheelchair engaged the motor. I got back home without any further incident thankfully.

I rang wheelchair repair because they always say they want to know about things like this, but because I'm due to get a new set of motors they don't want to do any repair work or troubleshooting.

Does anybody possibly know what this problem could have been? And what the likelihood is that occurring again?

Thank you for reading

Happy New Year

Malcolm.

Thank you for that information :-)

I'll definitely be attending, it's great to see new product!

By the way Jen, I am waiting for a new set of motors – for some reason  there has been a delay in getting them from America.

Well, Jenny what an adventure to start the New Year!

I don't blame you for being scared! As a rule of thumb I always go down inclines with my wheelchair slightly reclined. I remember at last year's Expo that I attended, another user who had a TDX SR attested to having trouble with the wheelchair breaking To the left when the descending a steep hill! Under certain conditions.

By the way Jenny happy belated birthday :-)

Thank heavens you had people with you

Rained On

Last week I had a rude awakening! I was making a trip in the rain (as I have many other times, but this time I was using my refurbished colour controller).
Well, did I get the surprise of my life! Really, it was pretty wet! I came home, turned up the temperature of my heat pump; then went to the syndrome my lounge (lacking I had my cell phone with me).

All of a sudden my controller started moving on its own without any input from me. This was quite unexpected and very frightening! I tried to turn the controller Off (it froze right in the middle of the while turning off)!
Luckily, I had my cell phone on me! I find that the wheelchair repair services, and they gave prompt service (there were at my home within 20 minutes)!
It appears, that I had Saturated my controller; by this stage it was flashing at me. Maybe I've been lucky, but I've never had this situation happen before.

Luckily they had My monochrome controller in the van, and I could use that again.
They are sending the colour controller up to Christchurch for proper refurbishment, or I'm assuming if they can't do a proper repair on it, they might get me another one!
Have any of you have experience with waterlogged controllers or power modules before?
Your feedback would be interesting

Thank you so much Jakeboy :-) I'm much relieved to hear that there isn't a problem, it's just my configuration :-).

Is it common for many people to have Drive Lock Out enabled?

Thank you so much

An Update

I had my regular tech guy visit me this afternoon. We checked that all the connections were we they should be. He checked that my software was up-to-date. Rechecking all my drives were enabled for G track!

Plus earlier I went out for a drive and everything appeared perfectly fine.

I noticed that the controller I received had quite a few noticeable fine scratches on it (which I would prefer weren't there, but I can live with). Plus I had the background colour changed on the controller display to (salmon) :-)

It's good to have a colour display even if it is slightly blemished

I also noticed that on one side of the controller it has Velcro, plus the Mono port on the back of the controller is unplugged (I'm suspecting it could have been used for a person who used additional controls).

Interesting stuff

Here is a picture of my control, I remember reading, that not all controllers supported the showing of the icon (maybe I got that wrong)? I know with the monochrome G track didn't show, I think from memory some of the early MK6i controllers, but you think that function could probably be added through a software update it wouldn't be hardware related?

My wheelchair did come with the G Trac module I've always had it, I know that they don't have any is an option as a retrofit because it's done at the factory. I know when a technician came he seemed to be in a real rush because he had a number of jobs to do (he told me this); I was concerned that G track was working properly. He finished putting everything together and initially, put the protective cover they cover the electronics, I'd already had the control on while he was doing this. When he put the cover on, the green status bar at the bottom of the display turned yellow and told me that there was a "G trac fault"

I told him about this, so he un screwed the cover again making sure that all the connections were tight during this process the status bar turned green.

He quickly tested that all the driver profiles were green (1 through 4) and said that the meeting was working.

Personally I think it would have been helpful had he not done all the programming behind my back.
12  General Invacare / General Chair Chat / Re: I've just had my monochrome MK6i controller replaced with the colour version! on: October 13, 2012, 06:36:46 pm
What's the latest firmware version number for the colour controller (presently my firmware version number stands at: 2.2.1)

Could G Trac be working fine even though my display does not display the G Trac icon on-screen? Could this be a matter of updating the firmware to a later version or did some models of their colour control not always support showing the icon?

Is there a way to test to see if G trac  is working?
13  General Invacare / General Chair Chat / I've just had my monochrome MK6i controller replaced with the colour version! on: October 12, 2012, 12:34:33 am
Well, the monochrome display was failing, becoming much harder to read and was flickering. While on a trip down to see the wheelchair technicians workshop for the first time. I showed them the display and its current state! At the time, they didn't say anything, but when I returned home and there was a message on my phone saying that the boss, had ordered me a new colour controller! As far as surprises go that was a big one, which I didn't expect!

They ordered the controller on Tuesday and by Thursday morning it had arrived :-) today Friday, the technician came and installed it (it was pretty quick service). It wasn't the usual guy I see, but one of the other technicians. He spent some time connecting the controller up (I have tilt/ recline –Elevating legrest's). Unfortunately, everything was done behind the wheelchair while I was in it so I didn't get the opportunity to see what it was doing! A disappointment for me because I'm interested in all things like this.

I had my previous program  loaded from memory card.

I also have G track, but unlike some of the pictures I've seen the symbol for that did not appear on the screen? The technician told me that G Trac was working?

Could it be possible that because my program was transferred from an older controller, or that my G Trac module comes from 2010 that the symbol does not show, or could it be because of the way my previous programme was?

Also, in standby mode appears to be the same?

I note on Kiwijenn's controller she gets a sleeping face animation?

Any feedback would be truly interesting

Cheers,

Malcolm.
14  FRONT PAGE / Polls / Re: What SPEED would you like to have on future pole/GB motors? on: October 02, 2012, 08:03:39 pm
Jenny, that is very interesting, I've always wondered whether the HD option on the 4 pole motors provides more torque? Is Torque a real requirement for hill climbing?
15  FRONT PAGE / Polls / Re: Wheelchair colour option idea! on: October 02, 2012, 07:42:38 pm
Thank you Jenny,

That would certainly be much cheaper than taking the wheelchair to a car painters :-). I kind of knew about getting the Ministry of health permission. But now I'm a little bit nervous because I think they would laugh me out of the office for being too eccentric maybe :-) wanting to change the colour
