In the good ol USA, speed has been regulated to 6mph on a "group 3" chair.  While I personally would like 8mph, I have noticed less tire and motor replacements with the regulated speed.

That's interesting on the tires.  For me I replace all tires/castors at same time once a year or maybe twice a year lol I can't quite remember, this is on my TDX 5 with 7.5mph GB motors.

Speed wise, I would like to see GB motors at 8.5mph
4 pole motors I'd like to see go the same as the GBs, if not then at least 7.5mph

Speed of wheelchair's (GB motors plus plus 4 pole motors).

I'd like to see the speed increased across the board (GB motors to 8.5 or 9 mph and 4 pole motor speed increased to at least 6.8, or on parity with the GB motors – if this wouldn't impact negatively on reliability!

When the GB motors first came out, the top speed was 8.5 mph, I had a used 2001 arrow with GB motors that went 8.5 mph, I don't know why invacare drop the speed down to 7 mph? I hope Invacare brings the speed back up.

When did the first GB motors come out? I always thought it was around 2003, but obviously it's a lot earlier than that?

Yea my old Arrow went 8.5mph too with the first GB motors.

They reduced the speed on the new HDTTGB motors to provide more Torque.  The GBs couldn't have both high torque and high speed.

Jenny, that is very interesting, I've always wondered whether the HD option on the 4 pole motors provides more torque? Is Torque a real requirement for hill climbing?

Unfortunately, speed has been regulated more by funding sources and legal department....

In the good ol' USA the main funding source started regulating maximum speed on most chairs the pay for.  Also, Invacare's legal department set maximum speed based on safety and that is 7mph....

I think 6mph-8 mph is good.
